Celeb Lookalikes

Apart from the obvious estranged father and son jodi, George Bush and Ricky Ponting, here are a few celebrities off the top off my head who totally look like one another. With suggested roles if ever cast together. Why hasn't it happened yet?

1. Brad Pitt and Benicio Del Toro: As hunky brothers

2. Rachel Weisz, Preity Zinta, Vyjantimala: Vyjanti-ji being mother and having one numbers desi legit girl child (Preity), and one numbers illegit firang girl child (Rachel).

3. Helen Hunt and Leelee Sobieski: Mother-daughter. (They're so similar it's creepy.)

4. Jack Black, Philip Seymour Hoffman: Brothers

5. Diane Lane and Jennifer Lopez: Seriously. Sisters.
Or cousins. Or aunt-niece, depending on makeup.

6. Robert Downey Jr and Javier Bardem: Be still my beating heart. Brothers.

7. Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts: They do look like one another, they do. It's not just the Aussie thing. Anyway, they could be sisters or something.
(Nicole has to stop the botox. She'll start looking like Renee Zellweger soon, the way the both of them are going.)

I'm pretty sure there's many more I can't remember just yet. It will come to me. In the meanwhile, please feel free to suggest.

Recent movie-watchings

Vicky Cristina Barcelona: Delightful! Woody Allen does it again. I love his films, I do. Familiar European setting, voice-over narrative and much onscreen madness. Totally enjoyable.
Scarlett Johansson and Javier Bardem were very good, but Penelope Cruz was magnificent. *kisses fingers* Not to mention unbelievably gorgeous.
I mean, look at her.
Esp. loved the scenes where Bardem and Cruz erupt into heated Spanish, arguing like siblings, and Bardem telling Cruz ever so often, “Speak in English, okay?” Hyaahahhaa. Cow.

Another Cruz movie I liked: Volver
Another Bardem movie I found interesting: Love in the Time of Cholera

The Reader: Erm. Had had such high high high expectations from this one that of course it was a letdown. Kate Winslet is farking brilliant. As is the young lad. But apart from an interesting story, it was pretty lukewarm, I thought. The sexplicit scenes were there, yes. But to what effect? Ho hum, as it were.
I don't know. Vaguely disappointed after watching this one. Must read book. I hear it's much better.

Another movie Winslet is brilliant in: Jude

Rachel Getting Married
: Liked. In spite of it being about yet another screwed-up, self-centred young American thang, a dysfunctional family and what have you. Very Indie feel on the whole.
Anne Hathway does decently as the annoying main character. (She must be used to it - The Princess Diaries, The Devil Wears Prada.) The star of the movie for me was 'Rachel' played by Rosemarie DeWitt. What a pleasant surprise she turned out to be. Very dialogue-driven movie. And interesting music by someone probably from the Middle-East, I'm not sure who. Mad characters and scenes which we in the real world can't possibly relate to. Still, I liked.

The Changeling
: Yuk. What a bad film. Angelina Jolie scared me with her portrayal of the Ice Queen in this. Oh wait. She was playing a heart-broken, distraught, desperate yet determined mother. *shakes head*
Complete waste of time, and a deepening worry about Ms Jolie's kids in this, the Real World (yes, the whole UCB lot of them). If Art imitates Life, those kids deserve our sympathy.

In spite of the fact that they get to snuggle up to Brad Pitt any time they want.

NOTE TO SELF: Amusing as it is to follow your train of thoughts, you are going down the same mind-numbing and unfair path as that horrific Showbiz Tonight on WB Movies where loser reporters pick on a celebrity, opine and pass scathing judgement on them and everything that goes on in their private lives. Shame. Shame.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I watched, I liked.
Certainly not fabulous enough to win Best Film, but very good nonetheless. Mr Pitt was fantastic as I think he always is (the poor underrated sod what with his pretty face taking away from his acting).
Extremely impressed with the gorgeous Cate Blanchett since she was herself for a longer period in this film than Brad was himself.

Loved: Cate Blanchett as the contemporary dancer. As the insecure older woman. As the gorgeous love interest.
Loved: Tilda Swinton's character and esp. the "It was nice to have met you." note.
Loved: The love between Benjamin and Daisy.
Loved: Brad on bike. Rowrrr.
Loved: The ending where Cate holds Baby Brad in her arms. So bleddy clever.
Loved: Various other things.

Did not like: Weak to-ing and fro-ing between present and past. Julia Ormond has pissed me off from the time she caused all that havoc in Legends of the Fall. She continues to do so in this film.

New movie on wishlist: Rachel Getting Married

Maybe, baby.

Spoke with Glaahaaa after ever so long a few nights ago. For the most part we were talking absolute nonsense, which is how we normally communicate. In between the gibberish and laughing I learnt that she has had quite enough of Mumbai and is definitely back to Bangalore in a few months from now, after wrapping up a good year and more of excellent training at a pet grooming salon (of which I have made mention in a previous blog). Glaahaaa is going to do good things in the near future, but most importantly, she is coming back. Yayyyyy! Fun times again!
Now the reason I write this is, Glaahaaa mentioned to me in a fit of feminine fury (alliteration again) how she's just about had it with the single life and how she had that very day made up her mind to get married within the year. As in, by 2009, Glaahaaa has promised she will be a Mrs Someone in addition to being herself.
Now I found this declaration extremely eerie because I too had been thinking about this whole 'single deal' earlier the very same day and had in fact decided on something entirely different. Namely, that I was really much, much happier this single way than in erstwhile times of horror, and that in all likelihood I wouldn't want to look at marriage again. EVER. And yes, so I want children very badly, to an almost painful, obsessive degree, but oh, well, I'll resign myself to the Madonna, Brangelina or other celeb-style serial adoption process. Except I won't be visiting Rwanda or Cambodia. I'll stick to someone more local. It's a better plan. And more common-sensical.
So. There it was. She said that and I said this and how very strange that it all happened the same day.
(Must make mention that I sneakily tried to talk Glaahaaa [once again] into having extra babies and letting me take care of the lot, but she saw into my subtle, cunning maneuvering and scoffed. Glaahaaa claims she won't have kids. I'll see about that...)

Erm, I think the point of this post is I love children and I want mine. Like now.

The inside story

How the trouble really started.

BRAD: Oh. I thought you said you ADAPT very well.
